Bar Director Decrees 2025

Pursuant to Section 3 of the Bar Association Bylaws, this is a list of Bar Director Decrees issued in 2025.

Decree 01

Issued by Confused on 29 January 2025.

I, under the powers given to me by The Right Honorable [Attorney General], hereby proclaim myself public defender.

Decree 02

Issued by Confused on 30 January 2025.

By the power vested in me by the Gods of SimDemocracy and The AG, I, hereby, anoint you [Ben] as P U B L I C D E F E N D E R

Decree 03

Issued by Confused on 5 February 2025.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit - I, hereby, bestow upon the right honorable [Ferris], the sacred role of public defender.

Decree 04

Issued by Confused on 6 February 2025.

In the name of our Lord and savior, I, hereby, announce my intention to establish an Office of Public Defenders. If you are willing to serve as a PD, please let me know. @Judge, if you require PDs for trials, please let me know. PDs will be paid on a case by case basis (I will announce the exact amount later). This system will not affect any cases where PDs are already assigned. It will also take a few days to setup and until then, it will have no effect on any case.

Decree 11

Issued by Confused on 27 April 2025. Subsequently adopted by the Bar.

Whereas, the Bar needs someone to administer secret ballot votes,

Whereas, I don't wanna do it,

Whereas, [hmquestionable] is the only guy that seems to be interested in doing it,

Whereas, [hmquestionable] deserves to be on the Ethics Committee,

I, hereby nominate [hmquestionable] to be a permanent Honorary member of the SDBA Ethics Committee. As an Honorary member, he will observe and participate in Ethics Committee proceedings but he shall not hold a vote.

This Decree shall come into force if it is adopted by the members of this honorable Bar Association with a simple majority within 24hrs.

Decree 12

Issued by Confused on 27 April 2025. Subsequently adopted by the Bar.

Whereas someone needs to administer the Office of Public Defenders,

Whereas I'm trying to reduce my SimDem obligations,

Whereas others also deserve a chance,

I hereby appoint [Palmer] as Assistant Director of the SimDemocracy Bar Association, Office of Public Defenders.

In this capacity he will be responsible for the day to day operations of the OPD. The Bar Director will still remain the nominal head of the OPD and will retain the final authority on all OPD matters.

This Decree shall come into force if it is adopted by the members of this honorable Bar Association with a simple majority within 24hrs.

Decree 13 (Administrative)

Issued by Confused on 13 May 2025.

Subject: Establishment of the Office of Legal Training and appointment of Judge Britz as Assistant Director

The following is hereby notified:

1.An office for the education of the citizens of SimDemocracy in matters of law is hereby established under the administration of the SimDemocracy Bar Association (herein referred to as the SDBA). This office shall be known as the Office of Legal Training (herein referred to as the OLT). The OLT shall be funded and administered completely by the SDBA

2.The OLT shall be managed by an Assistant Director, who shall hold the designation of Assistant Director, Office of Legal Training, SimDemocracy Bar Association. He/She shall serve at the pleasure of, and shall be answerable to, the Director of the SimDemocracy Bar Association

3. Judge Britz (username: britzy1707) is hereby appointed as of Assistant Director, Office of Legal Training, SimDemocracy Bar Association.

Decree 13B (Administrative)

Subject: Modification of the process of admission to the Bar Association and the delegation of authority to the Office of Legal Training.

Whereas Bar Director Decree No. 13 dated 13.05.2025 has been issued previously on the aforesaid subject;

And whereas the Director of the SimDemocracy Bar Association (hereinafter referred to as “the Director”) is empowered under Article 3, Section 1 of the Constitution of the SimDemocracy Bar Association, read with Section 2, Clause 2 of the SDBA By-Laws, and in accordance with the opinion of the Ethics Committee of the SDBA dated 15.05.2025 authored by cpalmer022:

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred and for the purposes of streamlining the process of admission to the Bar and regulating legal training, the following provisions are hereby notified:

1. The Bar Examination shall comprise two components, namely—

a. a written component; and

b. a practical component.

2. The written component shall be in the form of a Google Form which is publicly available. Specific instructions and information regarding the written component shall be contained inside the Google form. Such information and instructions are subject to change without prior notice. A candidate must score 50% in the written component to clear it. Upon clearing the written component, the candidate shall be granted the status of Provisional Attorney.

a. A candidate may attempt the Google Form no more than once every twenty-four (24) hours, Candidates may not use unfair means[1] in the written component. Any candidate found to have used unfair means may have their status of Provisional Attorney stripped. If a Certified Attorney is found to have used unfair means, then they maybe disbarred by the Ethics Committee.

b. For the avoidance of doubt, it is hereby declared that the status of Provisional Attorney shall not, in itself, constitute authorisation to practise law in SimDemocracy. No Provisional Attorney shall be deemed competent to practise law except under the supervision of a Certified Attorney.

3. The practical component shall be administered by the Office of Legal Training (subject to oversight by the Director). Only Provisional Attorneys may attempt the practical component. The practical component shall include a mandatory incubation period for all Provisional Attorneys. The length of the incubation period shall be notified by the Assistant Director, Office of Legal Training, SDBA (herein referred to as “Assistant Director”). After a Provisional Attorney completes the mandatory incubation period, the Assistant Director, with the express approval of the Director, shall have the authority to:

a. Grant the status of Certified Attorney and formal certification to practice law, or

b. Mandate that the candidate undergo an additional period of incubation, or

c. Strip the candidate of their status as Provisional Attorney.

' Rules and regulations concerning the definition of “unfair means” shall be notified within the written component of the Bar Exam. The definition may also be derived from legislation adopted by the SDBA and the Senate of SimDemocracy.

Decree 14

Issued by Palmer on 10 July 2025. Repealed by Decree 14.

Whereas, First Preference Voting is a terrible way to select Ethic Committee Positions

Whereas, We can do much better

Whereas, the memes are too strong

Whereas, the Bar seems unhappy with the current voting procedures.

I hereby make a Interim Decree to hold all votes for the next 48 hours, while we possibly make a bylaws change.

(Interim decrees automatically expire after 48 hours unless confirmed by simple majority at the 48th hour)

Repealed by Palmer on 10 July 2025.

Whereas, I guess I misread the feelings of the bar. It’s not a clear majority of people.

This decree is rescinded and we will move forward with the ethics election.

Decree 15 (Administrative)

Issued by Palmer on 26 July 2025.

Whereas; it is impossible to truely appreciate a petition for nomination to the Senior Council when there is many of them.

Whereas; I don’t want to see everyone ever associated with the Bar petitioned for at once.

Procedure for SC petitions will limit the number of active petitions to one at a time. In order to not destroy current states of petitions, we will allow the current ones to continue. But all petitions for nominations after Terak’s will simply be added to a list and presented once the rest clear up.

We are not voting on 12 people at once.

Decree 16 (Administrative)

Issued by Palmer on 16 August 2025. Subsequently adopted by the Bar.

Whereas I can’t hold onto my baby forever,

Whereas she has shown great administrative and litigating skills,

Whereas I’ve been trying to stop taking cases but they just keep dragging me back,

I hereby appoint [Quad] as Assistant Director of the SimDemocracy Bar Association, Office of Public Defenders.

In this capacity she will be responsible for the day to day operations of the OPD. The Bar Director will still remain the nominal head of the OPD and will retain the final authority on all OPD matters.

This Decree shall come into force if it is adopted by the members of this honorable Bar Association with a simple majority within 24hrs.

Decree 16 (Substantive)

Whereas I can’t hold onto my baby forever, Whereas she has shown great administrative and litigating skills, Whereas I’ve been trying to stop taking cases but they just keep dragging me back,

I hereby appoint [Quad] as Assistant Director of the SimDemocracy Bar Association, Office of Public Defenders.

In this capacity she will be responsible for the day to day operations of the OPD. The [Bar Director] will still remain the nominal head of the OPD and will retain the final authority on all OPD matters.

This Decree shall come into force if it is adopted by the members of this honorable Bar Association with a simple majority within 24hrs.
