SDAF Updated Ranks and Responsibilities

With the planned overhaul of the SimDem Armed Forces, a new system in which to rank service members shall be implemented in order to clarify the duties and responsibilities of each member of the SDAF.

Enlisted Ranks

  • Enlisted personnel shall serve a term of enlistment for no longer than 6 months
  • After the enlistment term has expired, the enlisted member may request to renew their enlistment term
  • Enlisted personnel with a rank of E-3 or higher shall also be designated as Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs)
  • The enlisted ranks are as follows:

E-1 Private

  • Any and all personnel who enlist in the SDAF are automatically given the rank of Private
  • Privates are expected to learn the rules and procedures of the SDAF
  • After showing satisfactory progress after one (1) week, Privates shall be promoted to E-2
  • Pay Grade: 50 tau/week

E-2 Private First Class

  • E-1s who have met the basic requirements, as well as veterans who have retired prior to the publication of this document (with the exception of former Generals/Secretaries of Defense), shall be eligible to become Privates First Class
  • Privates First Class are expected to train and prepare themselves for leadership positions
  • After completing a Basic Leaders Course with a Commissioned Officer, Privates First Class shall be promoted to E-3
  • Pay Grade - 75 tau/week

E-3 Corporal

  • E-2s who have met the requirements for promotion shall receive the rank of Corporal
  • Corporals are expected to learn knowledge that will prepare them for a specialized division (Divisions shall be listed in Appendix A)
  • After receiving a certificate in their specialized field as well as having served at least 1 week as an E-3, Corporals shall be promoted to E-4
  • Pay Grade - 100 tau/week

E-4 Sergeant

  • E-3s who have met the requirements for promotion shall receive the rank of Sergeant
  • Sergeants are expected to assume second-in-command of individual squadrons in the SDAF
  • After one (1) month of service as an E-4, Sergeants shall undergo a performance evaluation by a review board in order to determine if they are eligible for promotion to E-5
  • Pay Grade - 125 tau/week

E-5 Sergeant Major

  • E-4s who have met the requirements for promotion shall receive the rank of Sergeant Major
  • Sergeant Majors are expected to assume command of individual squadrons in the SDAF
  • Pay Grade - 150 tau/week

E-5 Command Sergeant Major

  • The Secretary of Defense shall appoint one service member with an E-5 rank to become Command Sergeant Major
  • In addition to performing the duties of Sergeant Major, the Chief Sergeant Major shall be the top advisor to the Secretary of Defense regarding matters of the enlisted force
  • Pay Grade - 150 tau/week

Commissioned Officers

  • Service Members ranked E-3 and above who have been citizens of SimDemocracy for at least six (6) months may apply to be considered an Officer Candidate
  • A review board headed by the Secretary of Defense shall oversee candidate applications once a month to determine which candidates shall be accepted as Commissioned Officers.
  • Newly accepted Commissioned Officers shall be ranked O-1

O-1 Lieutenant

  • All newly accepted Commissioned Officers shall receive the rank of Lieutenants

Lieutenants are expected to hold high positions within their divisions, as well as train and prepare for command of said divisions

  • After two (2) weeks of service as a Lieutenant, a performance review shall be conducted to see if the service member is eligible for promotion to O-2, provided there is a vacancy in the next rank to be filled by this promotion
  • Pay Grade - 175 tau/week

O-2 Major

  • O-1s who have been deemed eligible for promotion shall receive the rank of Major
  • Majors are expected to assume command of individual divisions of the SDAF
  • Pay Grade - 200 tau/week

O-3 Lieutenant General

  • The Secretary of Defense shall appoint one O-2 for promotion to O-3
  • The Lieutenant General shall serve as second-in-command of the SDAF, as well as serve as top advisor to the Secretary of Defense regarding matters involving Commissioned Officers
  • Pay Grade - 250 tau/week
