Repeal passed by the Senate on 28 May 2025, and signed by the President on 29 May 2025.

Preamble

Whereas: An oath sworn in SimDemocracy should not bind anyone who may have more important responsibilities outside of SimDemocracy.

Whereas: An oath sworn in SimDemocracy should not require anyone to violate the Reddit User Agreement or the Discord Community Guidelines.

Whereas: An oath sworn in SimDemocracy should not create an obligation to perform immoral actions.

Reasonable Oaths Amendment

Part 1: Amending the Oaths

§1. The Oath for Office Act shall be amended to replace all instances of “I solemnly swear/affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of this office.” with the following: I solemnly swear/affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of this office to the extent that I am available in SimDemocracy. If I do not have the availability necessary to execute my duties, I will resign from my position.

§2. The Oath for Office Act shall be amended to add the following to each oath directly before “Ave SimDemocracy!”: This oath shall not apply to circumstances in which following it would threaten SimDemocracy’s existence or be immoral. I agree to be bound by this oath until such time as I vacate my position, at which point I shall be released from it.
