Minecraft Land Property Act
Passed by the Assembly on 18 July 2025.
Article 1: Land Ownership
§1. The land (including oceans, lakes, etc) of the Minecraft Server is by default property of the state of SimDemocracy, the natural resources and natural produce of this land free to collect for all of the Minecraft Server players.
§2. A player may apply for ownership of land by requesting a section of land from the Governor of the Minecraft Server, noting the exact coordinates and spatial dimensions of the territory they wish to acquire.
- §2.1. The Governor may approve or reject this application.
- §2.1.1. The Governor must have sufficient reasoning to reject such an application, such as a significant negative effect for other Minecraft Server players or land owners.
- §2.1.2. An application to acquire land already owned, or otherwise considered a landmark as defined by the Minecraft Settlements and Landmarks Act 2025, is to be automatically rejected by the Governor.
- §2.2. There shall be an application fee of 20 tau. If the application is rejected this fee is refunded.
- §2.3. The Governor is to determine a reasonable price for the land, based on factors including, however not limited to proximity to spawn and major infrastructure, the amount of land requested and the quality of land requested.
- §2.3.1. This price shall not exceed a value of 2 tau per surface block.
- §2.3.2. The Governor may appoint officials, or request other government departments such as the SimDemocracy Armed Forces (SDAF), to survey the land to determine suitability for its purchase and the value of the land.
- §2.3.3. If there exists player made constructions on an area of land, then the player that made those constructions can acquire the land they have constructed on for free.
§3. A player of the Minecraft Server may transfer ownership of their land to any other player of the Minecraft Server via a contract legally valid under SimDemocracy law.
- §3.1. The Governor must be notified of this contract.
§4. The Governor must keep a registry of which players own what land.
- §4.1. The Governor may appoint an official to be responsible for this.
§5. A player of the Minecraft Server may apply for a territory to be legally recognised as a town or city via the process described by the Minecraft Settlements and Landmarks Act 2025.
- §5.1. Towns and Cities may dictate who owns what land in the settlement according to their own local government structures, the settlement itself is responsible for maintaining these records.
- §5.2. Existing towns and cities are automatically granted the territory on which they are located.
