National Holidays Act 2025

Preamble

WHEREAS SimDemocracy should celebrate a number of holidays, both originating from the history of SimDemocracy as well as from real life,

WHEREAS the attention paid to these holidays up to this point has been inadequate and legislation is necessary in order to ensure their proper celebration,

RECOGNIZING that celebrating holidays can be both a fun activity for SimDemocracy’s citizens, as well as help important causes, in however small a way, by shining a light and celebrating things such as LGBTQ+ rights and animal conservation,

DECLARING that by so doing, the people of SimDemocracy may be brought closer in shared celebration,

HEREBY presents the National Holidays Act 2025.

Part 1: General Provisions

Article 1: Celebration of Holidays

§1. On the dates specified in this act, the government and people of SimDemocracy shall be given the opportunity to celebrate events and symbols which are important to it.

§2. The government shall be required to make an annually recurring Event on the SimDemocracy Discord which lasts for the entire duration of the holiday for each holiday listed under this act, except if the Event happens concurrently with an election and would override any election-related Event.

§3. The government shall change the icon for the SimDemocracy Discord to a thematically appropriate one for each holiday listed under this act for the date on which the holiday takes place, except for LGBTQ+ Pride Month during which the icon shall remain changed for the entire month.

§4. The government is strongly encouraged to host events, provide information, hold fundraisers, or take other appropriate actions in order to properly honour and celebrate the holidays listed under this act.

§5. The people are strongly encouraged to partake in the celebrations by any lawful means they find appropriate in order to properly honour and celebrate the holidays listed under this act.

§6. To add a holiday, an amendment may be made to this act adding an article under Part 2 which defines the holiday in accordance with the structure used in other such articles.

§7. For ease of use, a schedule is provided showcasing a chronological list of all holidays listed under this act. This schedule is to be updated by the Archives Commission in a timely manner in case the list of holidays under this act are in any way revised.

Article 2: Repeals

§1. The National Holidays Act is to be repealed and considered as superseded by this act.

§2. The Trolligarch Act 2025 is to be repealed and considered as superseded by this act.

Part 2: Holidays

Article 3: Creation Day

§1. On February 12th each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Creation Day which honours and celebrates the creation of the SimDemocracy subreddit and the founding of the community as a whole.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ creation and/or independence days as well as the great and storied history of SimDemocracy.

Article 4: Revolution Day

§1. On April 11th each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Revolution Day which honours and celebrates the beginning of the people’s revolution against their tyrannical Supervisor.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ revolutions as well as the honouring of the citizens who bravely stood against the tyrant on this darkest of days.

Article 5: Victory Day

§1. On May 8th each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Victory Day which honours and celebrates the victory of the people’s revolution against their tyrannical Supervisor.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ victory days as well as the legacy of this event's impact on SimDemocracy.

Article 6: Constitution Day

§x. On August 29th each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Constitution Day which honours and celebrates the creation of the first cohesive SimDemocracy Constitution.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ constitutions as well as the lasting and evolving legacy of the SimDemocracy Constitution.

Article 7: Remembrance Day

§1. On October 9th each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Remembrance Day which honours and celebrates the rebuilding of SimDemocracy after the nuking of the SimDemocracy Discord while remembering what was lost.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ remembrance days as well as the vast amount of history that was lost on that day.

Article 8: Rejuvenation Day

§1. On January 2nd each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Rejuvenation Day which honours and celebrates the rejuvenation of SimDemocracy as a result of Danyo’s video.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ rejuvenations as well as the unparalleled legacy of this event's impact on SimDemocracy.

Article 9: International Workers’ Day

§1. On May 1st each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate International Workers' Day which honours and celebrates workers around the world, both in real life and in SimDemocracy.

§1.1. International Workers’ Day may also be referred to as Labour Day, Labor Day, or May Day.

§2. Particular attention may also be paid to other countries’ workers as well as the great and numerous contributions by the workers of SimDemocracy.

Article 10: International Women's Day

<ref name="women">Muggy Offshoots ‘Women’ Establishment Act 2025</ref>§1. On March 8th of each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate International Women’s Day. Honoring individuals that identify as women and contributions made by women within SimDemocracy and the wider world.

Repealed<ref name="cantread">Senators Can’t Read Repeal 2025 passed and signed 27 December 2025.</ref>

§2. As to not have much overlap with Victory Day, International Women’s Day shall also be celebrated on the days of March 9th, 10th, 11th. and 12th.

§2. Particular honor shall be paid to women of other countries, recognizing their struggles and achievements to the greater world and SimDemocracy

Article 11: LGBTQ+ Pride Month

§1. On June 1st each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Day which honours and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and its members.

§2. Particular attention shall also be paid to other countries’ LGBTQ+ communities, their victories and struggles, as well as the invaluable contribution of the LGBTQ+ community and its members on SimDemocracy.

§3. The entire month of June shall additionally be designated as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

§4. For LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the thematically appropriate icon under Article 1 §3 of this act shall be considered to be the pride flag, or a variant thereof which is clearly recognizable as celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and its members.

Article 12: Painted Wolf Day

§1. On August 26th each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Painted Wolf Day which honours and celebrates the National Animal of SimDemocracy, the painted wolf.

§2. Particular attention shall also be paid to the painted wolf’s existence in the real world, informing citizens of its particularities and its endangered status, as well as the broader field of conservation.

Article 13: Taco Tuesday

§1. On the last Tuesday of November each year, SimDemocracy shall celebrate Taco Tuesday which honors and celebrates tacos’ flavor, community, and festivity.

Article 14: Eddie Murphy Memorial Day

§1. On January 16th each year, SimDemocracy shall commemorate Eddie Murphy Memorial Day, which honors and celebrates the life of Eddie Murphy, as well as his work and contributions to SimDemocracy.

Article 15: National Love for Cats Day

<ref name="catdog">Cat and Dog Day Act 2025 passed on 22 November 2025 and signed on 24 November 2025.</ref> §1 On January 31st, SimDemocracy shall celebrate National Love for Cats Day, to remember the importance of those adorable pets.

Article 16: National Love for Dogs Day

<ref name="catdog" /> §1 On September 30th, SimDemocracy shall celebrate National Love for Dogs Day, to remember the importance of those loyal pets.

Article 17: The December Triad

<ref name="dectriad">December Has No Holidays? Amendment 2025 passed and signed on 3 December 2025.</ref> §1 From December 14th to January 1st, SimDemocracy MAY celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.

§1.1 The SimDemocracy government is highly encouraged to change the Discord server logo to a winter themed, or themed to one of the holidays stated in this article during this period.
§1.2 Due to the length of this period, this article is hereby exempted from Article 1, Section 2 and a Discord event should not be created.
